Initial client meetings are nerve-racking, right? You don't know what to expect, you want to present yourself well and more than anything you're hoping there's a good connection between you and your potential client....And then they leave and you analyze the meeting. What did they think? Was I a total goof? Are they going to hire me or will I never hear from them again?

I've been fortunate to develop some great friendships with a number of planners over the years who continually bless my socks off by bringing great clients my way. Two weeks ago I met with Heather Crabtree - one of the co-owners of Outstanding Occasions - and one of her brides who is getting married next spring. It was so much fun having Heather at the meeting. She knew her client and was able to interject helpful insights into the conversation. But more than anything, my favorite thing about having a planner at an initial client meeting is that I know I can follow up with them to get feedback.

I called Heather a few days after the meeting to follow-up and see how she thought it went. I respect her as a savvy business woman so I asked her to be honest with me and give me any constructive criticism she had about my presentation. There's always room for improvement and I'm always striving to improve. She said that she would honestly tell me if she had any but that she thought that I created a great experience for potential clients. She highlighted a few things that stood out to her from the meeting and we had a great chat.

Every time I am fortunate enough to have a planner sit in on a meeting, I seek out feedback. I can't express how valuable it is to have another business owner observe you and offer honest criticism.

If you're interested to hear what Heather's take on the meeting was, she wrote a post about it on her blog yesterday. I think it's so interesting to see the meeting from a planner's perspective - she had some great insights! Click here to read the full post!
