It's about time that I share another before & after room reveal from my new house. This is the guest room.
Here's a before and after shot:

I thought about using those curtains the former homeowner left as inspiration for my decorating scheme but then I realized I'm not a grandma yet.
Ya, those were the first things to go. The other changes made to this room were: new hardwood flooring, paint interior window trim and crown molding. I initially wanted to try to find the wood flooring that would match this room and extend it into other areas of the house but it proved to be a super-human feat. It was discontinued and there was nothing that even came close to matching. It was Pecan wood. Have you ever heard of that? So unfortunately we had to rip up perfectly good hardwood and install new. But since it covers the entirety of my house except for the two bathrooms and the laundry room, it was worth it. The paint is a soft yellow/taupe color that took a few tries to get right. We landed on Benjamin Moore's Philadelphia Cream which doesn't look yellow AT ALL on the sample but definitely does so on the wall. That's the way it goes with soft yellow though.
All of the furniture and decor in this room was brought over from my old house. And it actually used to be my bedroom furniture. That's right - I slept in a twin bed all the way up until September of last year. Dixie too.
The decor in this room was the first decorating I ever did for myself and it definitely has a country vibe. My tastes have continued to develop a bit over the years but I still find so much comfort in this room and love so many things about it. I found this awesome mustard trunk at an antique store years ago. And I basically made every pillow and fabric item in the room save the sheets, bedskirt, curtains and "Kindness Matters" sign. I used to be super-crafty. I made the quilt on the bed pre-photography business and still love it.

The button jar that sits on the night stand is my brilliant way of storing all the extra buttons that come with new clothing. Super-cute and functional!
I also thought I'd throw a bonus into this post and share the hall before & after. This hall connects six rooms in my house plus a closet and the heater. So it's high traffic. Here's the before and after shots:

Same yellow paint and hardwood as the guest room. It turned out to be the perfect spot to show off the quilt I inherited this summer that my great-great-grandmother made. I love it. And see the little cubby that juts out at the end of the hall (wood in the before photo and white in the after)? It's original to the house from when it was built in the 50s and it was used as a little ledge for the phone. So cute! Even though I don't have a land line I decided to keep it in homage to history.
So that's it! The curtains in the guest room just went up yesterday. That's why it took me so long to share this one. The curtains you see used to be one curtain panel from when I lived in an apartment with a super-narrow window in it. But I really wanted to use it for this room and since I couldn't find another to match, I had a seamstress cut the panel in half and hem it up to make two narrow panels to frame the window. They're narrow but I do love how it turned out!
