Only 4% of Americans write down their goals. Are you one of them? If not, I challenge you to do so.
Putting pen to paper makes your goals concrete, allows them to enter your subconscious, and provides a bit of accountability. And if that isn't enough to motivate you, this next factoid may send you over the edge: People who write down their goals make 9 times more money over the course of their lifetimes than those who don't. WOW! I'm guessing that's because people who write down their goals actually accomplish 9 times as much over the course of their lives than those who don't. And the money is just a side effect of productivity.
If you've been following my blog, you know I'm a fan of writing down my goals. Not only do I have a list of 101 goals to complete in 1001 days, but I post it on my blog for the world to see. I love the accountability this provides. And I love being able to celebrate with you guys every time I get to check one off my list!
The other day I spent some time reflecting on where I'm at with my life and my business and thinking about what I hope this coming year will look like. I've got my 101 in 1001 list, but I wanted to write down some specific goals for THIS YEAR. Here is some of what I came up with:
Personal Goals
-Last year I focused largely on achieving more balance in my life through prioritizing time with God and exercise. I made some amazing steps and LOVE the results. So, growing in my intimacy with God and exercising at least 3 times a week are remaining at the top of my list.
-My life is SUCH a bubble. I would love to spend more time this year focusing on blessing others. I'm not sure what this looks like yet, but I just want to grow and be less self-absorbed.
-Read 30 books
-Finish crocheting afghan
-I have some financial goals -- things I'm saving for
-Walk for autism & as a team raise $6,000
-Donate blood 2 times
-Get more involved at my church
-Rent a house for a few weeks in Flagstaff this summer
Business Goals
-I have a new business endeavor that I'm working on setting up. I plan to spend a good part of this year launching and promoting it. Stay tuned! Exciting things to come!
-Shoot 15 weddings & book 20-25 associate weddings
-Breathe new life & inspiration into my blog
-My album design template website is getting a facelift, plus we plan to release more templates and start an affiliate program
-Fill up 3 MJ2DAY workshops + update the website promo video
-Develop our senior portrait business
There's something about a new year that makes it exciting to dream, set goals, and look ahead. If you haven't done so already, I challenge you to spend some time dreaming and writing down your goals. A few tips I've found helpful:
1 - Make your goals concrete. Make them definable and able to be checked off.
2 - Don't be afraid to dream. Failure in this case isn't not finishing your list, it's not being willing to dream and write one in the first place.
3 - I'm a person of faith. If you know you're in the center of God's hand, write down your goals, but also surrender them wholeheartedly, knowing God may have a different (and much better) plan for your year.
4 - Be brave enough to write your goals down. Then be brave enough to share them with others. If you have a blog -- post them and share your journey.
