It's official. I've crossed over. At the age of 34, I am rejecting the advancement of technology for the first time. I'm now a member of the older generation who says, nope. Not gonna do it. I refuse to change.

My sister called me the other day to tell me she received a Kindle as a gift and that she loves it. "It's so easy to take with me, books are so cheap," she went on and on as I grimaced and tuned her out.

I LIKE BOOKS.

Not just the stories or information they contain but the smell of a book store, the feel of flipping the pages, the sense of accomplishment from putting the bookmark in and seeing how much further I have to go. I like the covers of books and how they look stacked up next to each other on shelves.

I don't want books to die.

Bookstores are closing, people are buying Kindles and being the old geezer I am, I'm visualizing myself describing to my grandchildren what a book looked like - "You know all those words you're reading on that screen, Sonny, they used to be written on PAPER. They used to bind hundreds of papers together and kids used to carry them around in their backpacks. Yep, those were the good 'ole days."

I really hope that day doesn't come.

And just in case you're considering it, please don't buy me a Kindle.
