Melissa Jill :) - Hi Kristen! Good question! The reasons to invest in professional prints have to do with color and quality of materials. When I color correct images on my computer, my monitor is calibrated for my lab's settings so that when they print the prints, the colors come out looking like they should. If you buy prints from Walgreens or Costco, the process is automated and the results are not consistent. You never know what you're going to get. They also use lower quality materials. While clients are welcome to print at Walgreens, I encourage mine to use a professional lab that is connected to a camera store. They will pay great attention to detail and you will see a difference in the side by side comparison of the prints.
Kristen - I also love this card, and I applaud you for having an option to purchase the hi-res photos. (I didn't consider any photographer who didn't for my wedding.) But I don't understand the problem with getting some cheap prints made -- could you talk more about that sometime? Though I'm not in your area, I spent a great deal on my wedding photography. We printed several 11x14 prints to frame and hang in our home -- through snapfish. Someday, we'll replace them with better quality prints, but there is no way we could spend that money right off the bat. To me, it was important to pay for the quality of the photography. I can pay for the quality of the prints in the future when we have that luxury. It was more important to be able to display and enjoy my photos than to immediately invest in professional prints. I'm interested to hear more about why you encourage your clients to not print at Walgreens-type places.
mark - i love when I do thank you cards for clients. but on occasions when they do it themselves, it's nice to receive really good looking ones also!
