Holly - I am catching up on blog reading so this is belated, but thanks for the tips! I resisted joining Twitter forever (one more thing to do) but I am glad I did. Hootsuite and scheduling is KEY...I use it more than any of the sites themselves. Other ideas...I've heard the hours of 3-5pm are the most active, so recommend putting the most important tweets out then. Also, avoid lots of direct convos...it drives me nuts when all someone tweets is a response to someone else, and you can't even see what they are responding to. Thanks for another great post, Melissa!
Eunice Brownlee - Great post! I would like to also add that DM'ing people to say "thanks for following" or "hey, follow me over here too." Are a total turn off. I usually immediately unfollow anyone that does this, as I feel it's an abuse of the DM.
Karen (Mikols) Bonar - I didn't realize #1. Thanks for that. Also, #4 is a great tip, too!!!! :)
rich - wow - such informative comments about twitter. i feel like i'm still learning to use it properly!
Tiffany - Makes sense! :) Thanks for the reply!
Melissa Jill :) - Hey Tiffany - you should only see the @replies in your home feed from the people you follow if you also are following the person they @replied. And definitely feel free to acknowledge compliments and #FFs with an @reply to the person who wrote them - just don't retweet them so that all of your followers see them. That's akin to saying, "Hey guys - look how cool I am!" :)
Kirsten Leah - I stopped following someone because for a week after the first iPad was released every tweet of his was about his iPad. It was ridiculous...things like "I just bought an iPad!" and "Love my new iPad!" I particularly remember "Clients love looking at my portfolio on the iPad!"
Tiffany - Thanks Melissa! :) I'm new to Twitter, but when I just looked at my 'home' feed, it showed the @replies that the people I'm following tweeted...? Also, do you have suggestions for how to respond to FFs and compliments that people tweet my way? I kind of feel like it's an unacknowledged thank you note if there's a compliment tweeted and then it's just left hanging out there...but I don't want to fall under the 'bragging' umbrella. TIA! :)
