Alan & Karen Woo - Awesome FAQ Melissa
Abby - Just a random question: Do you have any tips on how to better manually focus? I recently bought a new lens that I love except that my camera doesn't support the autofocus function. I love the results the lens gets me when I manage to focus properly...but so far sharp focus is more of a happenstance than a deliberate action. Any tips?
Jason Thon - Great Advice Melissa! You hit the nail on the head.
Karen (Mikols) Bonar - SO well put, MJ! I love the "show them what you love and they WILL want it" philosophy! :)
Alicia - I love this because it gives me the freedom to choose what I consider "the best" and as an artist, that's something that's important. Some people like Monet. Others prefer Van Gogh or Rembrandt, others don’t like any of them. Each person has his or her own opinion. “To thine own self be true”….and the right people, like you said, will come. Not every client is going to want the same thing. For the longest time, I kept thinking that I needed to change to fit into the mold of what other people were doing. But then I realized that being different and finding what works for ME is what is important. The world is full of cookie cutters. I want to be an original! ; ) I love that you tell others what works for you, but you never seem to say, "This is THE way and the ONLY way to do things in photography." You tell people that it's your option and then give them the option to choose if that's something that will work for them. It makes your blog so appealing to read--thank you! : )!!!

shawna - thanks for this, especially including amounts you pick out. and that last paragraph is an important reminder for someone like me just starting up a first business, getting clients that occasionally request photos that just aren't "my style". thanks again!
