Kurtz A - This is such a great idea but i think when your shooting in a RAW im not sure a way to do a slideshow unless you shoot RAW+Jpeg. Havent tried this but very good marketing tool like Photobooth
Harrisburg Wedding Photographer - Melissa,
This is interesting. I've probably heard of this before, but never considered the impact until I read this post. I'll need consider for my future weddings.
Do you ever relax during the day then? Wedding dinners are the only time I get to sit down and breathe, while feasting on some delicious food before the next event begins. Sounds like my second photog will need to do this.
Shannon S. - I know this post happened a while ago, but I never got around to reading the comments until tonight. In response to one comment about asking the bride before showing the slideshow...I think that is accomplished by including the slideshow in the wedding package description. If that is something that a bride and groom don't want, they can request it. However, in my experience at weddings with slideshows, it truly adds something really special to the event. People love looking at the pictures from the day and it serves as a nice break from the dancing but doesn't take people away from the action. Especially when the slideshow is set up right next to the dance floor. As a bride, I absolutely loved being able to see pics from my special day. It was so much fun and gave my guests the chance to see what they had missed earlier. As you can tell, I can't say enough good stuff about it. Love, love, love it!
Lydia - I love this idea and can't wait to shoot a wedding and do it!
J Sandifer - Great images and suggestions! Understand you spoke to my friend Dinno...what's up with that? Can't call an old friend for help :)
miranda from charlotte - i remember seeing the slideshow at my reception and being so excited at how awesome the pictures turned out! it totally put my mind at ease, and i knew i'd made the right choice in having you as our photographer. take care!
Melissa Jill :) - Hi Steven-- I just use a screensaver on my Mac for the slideshow. You just pick a folder and it zooms in and out of each photo in that folder. It's quick and easy!
Steven Mcmillen - Hi Melissa! What software do you use for the slideshow? Is it the same soft you use for cataloging the photos?
chris - Totally agree - it's a win win. How could people NOT like seeing beautiful images from their day RIGHT AWAY!? :)
photography by kristie - hi melissa, i love checking in to see what you are up to. i love your passion for this job! i have to be honest about this post. one of my assistants set up a slideshow at one of my weddings and although people did go look and enjoy, my heart told me, it was not a good idea for the client at all or the guests! of course it seems good to sell ourselves, but that is not why we are there. i felt that it took the attention off the bride and groom (in person)...people come from out of town to visit with them and they can see the pics after the small wedding day and if you did a great job, word of mouth advertisement will happen. i do think its A OK to put out our cards on the bar though:) this is what my gut told me. also, it may have not been the slideshow but the bride and groom left very early and the slideshow took people off the dance floor. i just think its a very bad idea and if we want to do it, i think we should ask the bride for permission.
Kara Layne - I love this idea ever since Free To Succeed with David Jay - can't wait to start adding this to my weddings for this season. Thanks for the post and can't wait for lunch!
Jessi - It was done at my wedding, and I have to say, my guest LOVED it! And I enjoyed peeking over at it as well! Two thumbs up for me!
Calvin - I like the idea. If I ever get to do a wedding, I will try to offer this. I do look for inspiration.
kendra - This is a great idea! Now that I am starting to offer a second shooter, I will have to add this into my package some day.
Holly Tweedy - This seems like such a great idea that has worked wonders for you!! I would love to try it in the future! I shoot alone and shoot in RAW. How do you suggest to load them onto the laptop- shoot a smaller JPEG? With a second camera?
You really have inspired me to try so many new things with the advice to complete them- I cant thank you enough!I
ericamay - Thanks for sharing your views on this! I have been going back and forth on whether I want to incorporate a slideshow into my wedding photography...the more I hear about it, the more I am sold on the idea! :)
Christina Faith - I absolutely love the slideshow concept. I did it at my first wedding in July and it totally sold everyone. I have a bridal shower this weekend and they asked for the slideshow. (LOL)
I will be getting the David Jay software because Iphoto actually was problematic because it took the orginal file and when I erased it out of the slideshow deleted the photos and I lost all of the photos from hair and makeup for the wedding.
Martin Mejia - Well as you know, but for those who don't, when we were in Sedona for Chris and Vanessas wedding that you shot...your slideshow totally sold your wonderful talent to me and THATS why we will see you next year in Houston for ours!!! A small but powerful marketing tool.
Victor Hugo Kawakami - Melissa, you have the execution of this idea down pat! Even placing the black cloth over the keyboard to beautify the presentation and keep everyone's focus on the screen. And having it next to the bar is such a great idea... You are one clever girl and have managed to once again leave me flabbergasted at your work. Very Impressive!
Dustin Francis - I totally agree with you about the slideshow. I as well as my couples love the slideshow. Also, one thing to point out as another huge advantage, is the bride and groom get to see each other getting ready on the day of their wedding instead of a week or so later...it really helps to enhance the experience emotionally for the bride and groom as well as the guests. Also, guests that didn't attend the ceremony get to see a little of what they missed. The slideshow does nothing but make the wedding day experience that much better for all parties involved!
shannon rice - love this post! great emotions from the guests. way to go for slideshows!!!
Erin Harvey - We had one bride just about in tears she was so excited. The weather was terrible and all our plans for shooting outdoors got ruined. She was so releaved to see how well things turned out. It felt great!
