Kristen - So I'm in sophomore in high school, I have two brothers with autism and a sister with asbergers and sometimes it gets frustrating because they just don't understand some stuff no matter how hard you try to help them out. The communication probelms are upsetting sometimes and my little brother doesn't really know how to express himself so he gets upset. Treating it is something I try to help do all the time, and the more awareness people have, the people inflicted, not just the kids, can be helped. Thanks for making more people aware. :D
Julie Morris - I just got done reading the book Born On A Blue Day by Daniel Tammet. In the book he describes what his life has been like with Autism. More specifically Savant Syndrome. I don't know what type of Autism your nephews your nephews have, but Daniel talks a lot about his frustration and how he copes - and later strives.
Becky Bornhoft - Wow, I can't even begin to embrace the awareness that our little park play group has accomplished. I'm so honored and blessed to be a party of this. Hats off to Katie, Holly, and Melissa and many more. Let's keep it going!!!!
Jessie Geroux - These are absolutely STUNNING!! What an awesome way to capture the event thank you so much!
Melissa Van Hook-S.A.N.E. - Thank you for the wonderful photos of the vigil!! You are truly a gifted photographer and I am so glad you are part of our community. I spent most of the night hosting the event w/Jim Adams, so I did not get much of a chance to mingle with the families. You captured the event, the emotions, and the absolute enormity of the event...thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Linda - Thanks Melissa-these are awesome photos for a very necessary issue!
MyndiB - LOVE these images, Melissa- very moving. My husband's getting ready to do the Penguin Plunge this Sunday to raise money for the Special Olympics team we coach. We see the struggles of the families of many of our athletes, and feel very strongly about this cause as well. Wonderful job bringing awareness.
Jennifer - Way to bring awareness to this Melissa. Very nice post and poignent pictures.
kelly - Love these shots! Looks like something out of "Life" magazine.
kymberli q. - These are beautiful images. I am so sad to find out that insurance doesn't cover this. It's unreal. God Bless those with autism and their families. Thank you for the informative post, Melissa.
Tawnya - Melissa~ you are such an amazing person, an dI admire you for your passion and determination- as well as your sisters. I hope and pray that both a treatment AS WELL as PREVENTION can be found. I just know that all the hard work will pay off someday- hopefully sooner than later :)
jess - this is great! please let me know about anything you go to again! i would love to be involved too! =0) see you soon!
Krista Guenin Photography - Having worked in an Autism Clinic at a children's hospital in Indiana right out of college - I am shocked that insurance doesn't cover treatment! I think it's wonderful that you took part in this - and that there seem to be so many others who did as well! That's how change starts...
Trina Knudsen - I love your commitment to making a difference where it counts...
Denise - What a beautiful testimony to an important cause. I love the shots of the individual kids whose faces are illuminated by the candle light. I didn't know that insurance doesn't cover these costs, so I'm sure that others don't as well. Thanks for sharing and speaking out on an important subject.
Sister Natalie - Thanks for your support Lis!! You are so awesome and even though my boys can't thank you, I do!!!
tami - oops! i got all emotional reading this post i didn't post my name but the name of who i was writing! oops!
melissa - Thanks for posting this! You rock in raising awareness! Keep it up!
Jina - Melissa, I'm so saddened by this. I am contacting my legislature as we speak. Voices need to be heard on this issue! Thank you.
Jeannie Cochran - Wow, I'm astonished that Insurance does not cover expenses for these children! My heart and prayers go out to all of you. Insurance does not pay for expenses of being Deaf either. Not that there is any comparison between Autism and Deafness, just the frustration of having to fight fight fight just to live a better life. Stay Strong! You will make a difference!
