Melissa Jill - Hi Erin! No, no need for a tripod. The flash has the effect of freezing your subject. So if there is ambient light in the background, there may be some blur to whatever it is hitting, but if the flash is the main light hitting your subject, there won’t even be any blur due to camera shake :). Definitely give it a try!
