Lee - This is so true and I wish I knew this at the beginning. Recently attended a workshop where the scene setting argument was well made. They won't win awards but really help the story!
Marzia - Not a single lie! :D Great reminder, thank you.
Kimberly - Love this! It's so true and great to be reminded. I tend to focus so much on the couple I miss some of the "scene sestting" images that add SO MUCH to the story! Thanks for the reminder!!
Catherine - Love this post! I've noticed I'm a "vertical" Photographer too lol. Have to make a lot of efforts to think of shooting horizontals! It helps to have in mind that you will have to blog on a wedding or engagement shoot also :-) Great tips there! I'll think about them on my next shoot!
Jennifer Starr - Great post Melissa! Curious if you have any tips on ..."how to create a more cohesive brand ~ when you're not a photographer?"..and when you typically work with different types of photographers?? The struggle is real. As always, I enjoy your posts. :)
Melissa Jill - Hey Jennifer -- This is definitely a tough one and I feel your pain. Photography is such a big part of branding your business, so if you are using work from various photographers with different editing styles, I can imagine it would be really difficult to create a cohesive brand. If I were in your shoes, this is probably what I would do. I would find 4-5 local photographers who I love, who have a similar style to one another and whose style would represent the brand I am seeking to create (for instance, I would choose all photographers who shoot film). I would refer them exclusively and also line up multiple styled shoots with them to create imagery for my site. I would exclusively use these images on my website, and then make decisions on which weddings I blogged based on whether the photography fit in with my brand or not. I know this is way easier said than done, but that’s honestly what I would do. The photography you use to represent your brand will be what attracts future clients to work with you, so it’s definitely worth it to be choosy and only put out what you are wanting more of. Once you have a cohesive brand with a specific photography style, new clients who work with you will automatically want that style, and you will be able to work with the photographers who are in line with your brand.
