Alexandra Andrews - Lovely photos - this happened to me this week on my 24-70 workhorse. I took it to a local camera shop (little independent in house repairers) they siad it wil only cost £15 plus VAT (in in UK) so I'm delighted, never will I use a lens without a filter again !
Virginia - O my gosh! my heart stopped when I saw that saw to your lens. I bet you were nervous.
Dennis - Wow, that must have been some scare. Glad all is well. I love my 70-200
Emily Edwards - It seems to me there is a MasterCard commercial in there somewhere...? Filter and lens cap: $50. 70-200mm lens: $1,700. All of the men in your family trying to save them both with a two wrenchs and a hacksaw on Thanksgiving day: PRICELESS.
Tim Halberg - too funny! I've actually done this on several occassions!! haha I might even consider myself an expert. And yeah... I learned by doing it wrong the first time or two!!
MattDJ - This is HILARIOUS Melissa!! A story for the family to remember for years to come. Happy Thanksgiving MJ!
Amy Nave - That's crazy:)
maile - that is CRAZY! Like mouth to mouth for your lens! Glad she's okay!!
mike Larson Photography, Inc. - man, thats crazy, luckily you still have the lens!
Crystal Goss - Wow! What a story! So glad your lense is okay! My 70-200 fell out of my shootsac last week, but only onto the grass. It was still enough to make my stomach jump! Happy Thanksgiving!!
mary beth - ahhh! the same thing happened to me. It jumped right out! My shoot sac literally rejected my lens. I later found out that you can't keep it in the middle pocket even though it felt better there for me. I'm not sure if that's what you did or not. I wasn't as lucky.... my lens is in pretty bad shape. :-( I love the shoot sac especially now that I know where to put my lenses.
Shawn Reeder - What a great story Melissa. Love that shot of DJ!
Andy D - I can't count the number of times my filters have saved my lenses. I did lose a 1D and a 200 mm to an icy set of metal stairs. Luckily everything was insured so after my $500 deductible, I was rolling again.
Armin - Whoa, saw the post on DJs blog and had to see yours. You look so "calm" in DJ's photo of you, his dad & the hacksaw, but I can imagine what was going through your head! :) Glad your beloved 70-200 turned out fine!
Bliss - Same thing happened to me a year ago but not finding any brave man to help me unscrew the filter I gave up trying myself, so the filter ring comes along with me everywhere, it's become a member of the family!! :D
Patricia - You can buy a filter wrench to take them off in these circumstances there are also a type of filter pliers that will cut through them and the glass will fall out of it allowing it to be removed(or something like that). The same thing happened to me in college. I don't use filters though I prefer the light and I don't use zooms either that thing looks like it weighs 50lbs 0.0
World Famous - Wow -- that sounds like a challenge! I'm not a fan of filters though...I hope I never drop my 70-200!
Rudy Arpia - Funny story! Happy thanksgiving.
keri - hahah i love it! my heart sank FOR you when I read that SAD story - but then i couldn't help but giggle when i saw the end result :) whew girl, now THAT's something to be thankful for! :) hehe..
DJ - SOOOO FUNNY!
Chris Billey - hahaha Tools + Guys + Home Depot = Repaired Lens Happened to us last week!! We took the lens into Tempe Camera! Fixed in a couple of hours.
