Lindsay - Thanks for this post, Melissa! - I use the beam assist when focusing at receptions (though I just read your low light trick post too, so that may change..) but from my quick test in the studio, it seems to work as well in one shot mode, just with the addition of the beam assist. Is there a benefit/difference between one shot and AI servo once the custom settings are on?

Mary Saou - i've tried to learn this, but haven't gotten the hang of it til now reading this! quick question: why do you change the AF setting to AI servo? i tried some keeping it on "one shot" and am not sure what the difference is... thanks!

Peter - This is a very old photojournalist trick. We have been doing this since the first EOS-1's came out 15 years ago or so. All sports or action shooters use it. It becomes second nature very quickly and makes using the shutter/focus combo unthinkable. - pt
Armin - I use that custom function too, it's awesome. I can't imagine shooting without it!
