marisa - I recently read an article that was talking about the link between pesticide exposure and ADHD in kids. Of course, ADHD isn't the same as autism, but it just really hammered home the point to me that we've got to be so vigilant about looking out for our children's well-being and refuse to accept the status quo. I love your passionate advocacy for finding the truth behind this terrible disease. So bummed we won't be able to walk with you guys (wedding) but I definitely hope we will be able to support in the future! :)
Stephanie Riley - Great post! I am walking in the WALK in Sacramento on October 9 in honor of my son who is 9 years old!
Ansley Braverman - My heart goes to you, Melissa. My god daughter has CF and I join the walk each year in Sacramento to raise funds to find a cure for CF. It is a tough reality those children are forced to face, and any kindness on our part is mot welcome. Keep it up.
Alyssa - Thank you, Melissa. This is an awesome post. I was just discussing autism with my sister in law the other day and I realized how little I knew about it. I've been doing more research on it because even though I don't know anyone who is autistic, it is really fascinating to me and I wish we knew more about it. It sucks that there is no known cause and it sucks that it's only been recently that the disorder started gaining some attention. BUT I really appreciate efforts like these because it DOES raise awareness and that will pay off soon! Your nephews are so lucky to have an aunt like you! (but of course, you are lucky to have them, too!) :D
Leanne - You are awesome Melissa! My nephew has autism too, so I really do understand so much of what you've written. As always, thanks for sharing :)
