Weddings are my specialty. They're what I'm made to shoot. I'm a wedding photographer who occasionally shoots portraits.

I've photographed a few high school seniors and even one college senior over the years and while I do a decent job, it's not my specialty.

Enter Sara. You might know Sara Nevels as my full-time office manager. If this is the first you've heard of her, click here to get to know her a bit. She's amazing at juggling a gazillion different things and helping me stay on top of everything. Since she's come on full-time at the beginning of this year, the business has been super-charged. I'm loving it.

This is Sara with her cute corgi-chihuahua mix Abby:
A few things you should know about Sara besides that she is the office super-hero. She's fun to be around (a bonus since we sit side-by-side day after day) AND she is passionate about portraiture -- more specifically senior portraits. She's not a wedding photographer but she IS a talented photographer in her own right. And she has an amazing vision and knack for working with seniors.

So besides being my full-time office manager, Sara has come on as an associate portrait photographer specializing in senior portraits (both HS & college) for Melissa Jill Photography. Seriously, how lucky am I?

Sara recently met up with Savanna -- a gorgeous high school senior -- and I'm blown away by the images she got! She's amazing.

I'm going to turn the rest of this post over to Sara so she can share about her time with Savanna. And if you or anyone you know is in need of senior portraits, contact us and we'll hook you up!

Heyo! It's me, Sara! Can I just say....I can't believe I'm blogging on Melissa Jill's blog right now!! This is quite a mind boggling experience for me! Melissa has been so unconditionally supportive and encouraging of me since the day we met, that I'm overflowing with gratitude! I seriously love every aspect of my job and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to grow as an artist as well. With that said, I'm honored to be sharing these images of Savanna with all of you!
Meet Savanna....aka Savvie....or as I like to call her "Sassy Savvie". She's the type of girl that can get along with ANYONE. Her personality is so dynamic and lovable that you will, without a doubt, find something in common with this girl. So, it makes sense that Red Mountain High School asked her to join Lion Alliance as a peer mentor for incoming Freshman and why she's so involved with TV Production and Theater.

My first impression of Savvie was during a phone conversation - yep, SHE called me, not her Mom - and I was blown away with how mature she was. Then I met her in person, and realized she's not only mature, but basically my twin! We had SO much in common that I felt like I had gone back in time and was meeting my high school self. It was weird.....in a super cool kind of way. Instantly, she felt like a little sister to me.....a much taller little sister.
For the shoot, I made this poor girl get up at 6am, and she didn't even make a fuss. She had a smile on her face from the time I arrived to the time I left. Such a trooper! But then again, that's Savvie. A lover of Mustangs, this girl is not only sweet and girly, but she's rough and tough. We cranked up the volume at this KILLER location with a "boat-load" (haha, sorry that's a joke for Savvie) of country music so she could rock out. We were cracking jokes left and right, and laughed hysterically at her friends who were there to cheer her on, and who eventually felt so inspired that one of them got a camera and started their own photo shoot! I felt like I was in an episode of ANTM.
Isn't she GORGEOUS?!! For reals. She made my job SO easy!
I had so much fun getting to know Savvie and I'm so excited for all that's to come for her during her senior year. Soon she'll be applying to an art school in Tennessee for Sound Editing.

My fingers are double and triple crossed for you, Savvie! Live it up and rock it out! :)
