Isn't that the coolest sidewalk chalk art you've ever seen? I walked by this in Rome today. It was a great day. We've started to get the idea that it's better to go out at 4pm or so to see the sites and shoot since you want TO KILL YOURSELF because of the heat if you go out any earlier. Today we headed into the heart of the city to see the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. This part of Rome is beautiful--probably my favorite yet. Here's some shots from around the Pantheon--the best preserved of all Roman buildings.
Next we headed toward the Trevi Fountain. I sat outside at a cafe for dinner and ate some yummy pasta. As I was finishing up and contentedly people-watching I had one of those slow-motion-weird-to-see-someone-you-know-in-the-wrong-place moments when my July 12th bride Lisa walked by. I had just shot her wedding less than a month ago in San Francisco and I ran into her on the streets of ROME!! What are the chances? I'm still completely shocked and flabbergasted. Yes. Flabbergasted. Lisa and Taylor went to Greece for 2 1/2 weeks on their honeymoon and then Lisa met up with some friends to see Paris and Rome. So she's been over in Europe since just a couple days after her wedding. Crazy. Here's a photo of Lisa with me looking so stunned I can't even keep my eyes open for a photo:
The world is indeed small. The even crazier thing is that this happens to me all the time. I'm always running into clients in off-the-wall places. Always a pleasant surprise.

So this is now my favorite street in Rome:
It's where I had pasta and ran into Lisa but a little later it's where I found this:
Five minutes prior to taking these photos I was walking along with Trina bemoaning the fact that I would love to have some gelato and feeling sorry for my extremely-lactose-intolerant self. I usually do fine without ice cream and other delightful dairy products but it was hot and so many people were parading their enjoyment of the cool treat in front of me. Prior to today I had asked a few gelato shops if they had any soy but they all looked at me strange and I realized that Italians love their dairy. It's in everything. Why would they have soy? But Trina suggested we check this place out and low and behold--Soy Gelato!! I don't often get visibly excited but I profusely thanked the smiling lady behind the counter for having soy and pretty much looked like I did in the picture above for the next hour. We decided we'll be visiting Blue Ice every day for the remainder of our stay in the fine city of Rome.

Next we headed down to the Trevi Fountain and just enjoyed the atmosphere while the sun set. All the tourists were clamoring to get their photos--more fun people-watching. Here we have the human tripod--cigarette and all. This cracks me up because I really doubt that her head is any steadier than his arms.
My rendition:
What a great day in Rome! Tomorrow we take a day-trip to Florence!
