Or so I thought before yesterday. But the ruins in Rome are the most gigantic and amazing that I've seen. Ruins are still not my most favorite thing ever but I definitely have more of an appreciation for them.
So we made it to Rome and stayed in a hotel without internet the first night. That was tough. But we're back in business today. We're staying in a modest hotel near the Rome train terminal. Here's a few shots of life as seen in our area:

I can't believe how many hotels there are--seriously like 6-10 per block. Sometimes a 6-story building has one hotel per floor.
And there are about 10 times as many scooters as there are hotels.
Yesterday we spent the entire day visiting the Roman Forum and Colosseum. The Forum was first and I couldn't believe what a high volume of ancient structures exists in one place! I expected everything to be more spread out and sparse I guess. There was so much to see! We didn't even get to it all. Here's some shots from the Forum:
The Arch of Constantine. At first it looks pretty small until you look at the size of the people around it!
Look at the concentration of old buildings in one place. I guess back in the first to 5th centuries Rome was the New York of the world--quite a happenin' place.
After a relaxing lunch we headed back out into the heat to see the Colosseum.
I was here.
I guess a lot of people wanted to make sure it was known that they were here.
Amazing!
I have four more days in Rome so there's much more to come!
