Just got home from a fun weekend camping up at Canyon Point with some friends from my church. There were 27 of us total. The weather was absolutely gorgeous--it was such a great break from the 100 degree heat. In my rush to leave early Friday morning and remember all my camping gear, I completely spaced it and forgot my camera. But I was able to arrange for my assistant to get it to my friend Cristi who was driving up the next day. So although I didn't have it the entire time, I was able to get some photos to share with you thankfully.
I grew up camping and do enjoy it now and then. But as it stands, I pretty much need to be adopted by some kind family in order to survive. Last summer I went with my friends the Spletters. And this year, the Swansons took me in. My camping gear consists of an air mattress, cooler and flashlight. I borrow a sleeping bag. And cooking food out in the woods is far beyond the scope of my talents. So it's a good thing Julie was my camping mom for the weekend:

I was seriously blown away by some of the families and the fanciness they maintained while roughing it. Steve & Wendy brought everything including the kitchen sink apparently:
I LOVE all the little organized hanging utensils :).

She baked apple cobbler one night and chocolate cake the next in a dutch oven. Unbelievable. I've never experienced camping food like I did this weekend. Not only did I not starve, I probably gained some weight.
Out of the 27 of us, 9 were under the age of 9. So we had lots of kidlins running around. I'm always marveling at how cute Portico kids are. It's practically a requirement that you have cute kids in order to attend :). Here's a few shots of the cuteness.

This has to be the cutest shot ever--Aubrey with her little princess doll in a hammock:
Hayden spent much of the weekend widdling his dagger. Then going out hunting with the older boys for wild....bugs.
Darren and his daughter Bronwen played a fun game of pop-the-bubble and I caught this sequence:
Told you. Cutest church-o-kids ever.
The kids spent an afternoon catching moths and Aubrey brought this one to show it off to me:

And no camping trip is complete without manly men doing manly things.
Here's Steve studying the wood. Then Steve chopping the wood.

And Scott tending the fire--making our scrumptous chicken-apple brauts.
Unfortunately (or fortunately for me) I was in zero photos. Being dirty for a few days can be fun. But then the fun ends and you just want a shower. Thankfully I'm back to my sparkly clean self and back home ready for a busy week of shooting.
Thanks so much to all the families who fed and sheltered me this weekend! I had such a fun, memorable time!
