Let's talk iPhone apps!
Isn't it amazing how we can go from not even knowing something exists to feeling like we can't live without it in only a few short years? Apps are one of those things for me. I'm not a fanatic that has a million different apps in a million different categories filling up 10 different iPhone screens. But I DO have a few apps that have revolutionized my life and I feel the need for you all to know about them!! So I'm starting a little just-for-fun series today to share about six of my favorites. Maybe there are a few that haven't made my list that you will feel the need to share with me as well. I'm sure my life has yet to be transformed by them :).
First up today is Clear -- an app that is not well described by its name. This is a tasks and list app for the person like me who likes to cross things off, but also inevitably leaves my paper grocery list at home when the opportune moment comes up to run into Frys.

Clear is super-easy to use. You can make unlimited numbers of lists with unlimited numbers of items in them. When you click on a list, you simply pull down to add an item to it. You can swipe right to cross the item off the list (but still keep it there with a line through it), or swipe left to take the item completely off the list forever. One of my favorite features is that you can bring a crossed-off item back onto your active colored list by swiping right again. So this app is perfect to use for common, recurring things like groceries because you will never have to type "Sun Chips" twice, just cross it off when you get it then swipe it back onto you active list when you need it again. It's also great when I'm getting ready to head to the grocery store to be able to look through the crossed off items to remind me to check if I need them -- they are a reminder of the common things I like to buy.
I LOVE clear for grocery lists. I am complicated and have four different grocery stores I like to go to for different specialty items, so this app helps me to stay super-organized with my neuroses. But I use it for so much more. Some of the other lists I store in Clear are:
-Blog Post Ideas. My ideas for blog posts are often inspired when I'm on the move or in random places. The great thing is I always have my phone, and it's easy to add them to the list. That way when I sit down to plan out my blogging calendar, I have a list of ideas to fill it with.
-To Do List. I still can't give up good old fashion pen and paper for my master TO DO list, but sometimes when I'm away from it and I remember something I must add to it, I use Clear to keep track of my thought until I can add it to the master list.
-Gift Ideas. Whenever Christmas comes around, I inevitably can't think of ANYTHING to get for my family members. My mind goes blank. But of course throughout the year I find myself mentally making notes of what I should get them based off of conversations we have that trigger ideas. As time has proven, my mental notes don't often stick, so I started a list on Clear to keep track of gift ideas for specific people. No peeking mom!!
-Packing List. This has to be one of my very favorite uses for this app. Packing. I hate packing. I open an empty suitcase and the energy is instantly drained out of me. It takes me forever to remember everything I need and then no matter how hard I try, I inevitably forget something. But Clear is a perfect solution because every time I pack I have to think through the same categories, so keeping a constant crossed off list that I can pull back to start fresh each time is great. Then if I forget something, I just add it to the list (or tweak the wording of the list) to make sure it doesn't happen again. I even have TO DO items on it that always need to be done before I go out of town. This is my Packing list in Clear:

And the rest of the list that you have to scroll to see says:
-travel info, cash
-trash, AC, plants
-Pack Dixie
-Swim stuff
-Period? (Maybe TMI, but us girls have to think about these things!)
This app is $4.99 and well worth the price as I find myself using it nearly every day. I'm sure there are other uses for it that I have yet to come up with.
Stay tuned for 5 more favorite apps in the weeks to come! And make sure to share your favorites in the comments!
