If you've been following my blog, you know that I shared some photos back in January from a candlelight vigil held by my community to encourage our legislators to pass a bill that requires insurance companies to cover certain costs for the treatment of Autism. Well, last month it was passed and last night I covered a shindig in celebration of that victory. Legislators, media and key stakeholders who helped make the recent Arizona insurance legislation a reality were all invited and honored.

This event was such a blessing for me to be a part of! The energy was amazing--there's something about being around people who have a passion for making a difference in the world. And last night they got to celebrate the fulfillment of SO many prayers and SO much work. I'm so thankful to each of them for stepping up to this challenge and fighting for children like my precious nephews and others who can't fight for themselves.

The party was held at a private residence in Scottsdale. Some fun details:
Everyone spent time mingling as they showed up:
This is Senator Aguirre who was the first member of the legislature to take notice of a letter written by a concerned mother who got this whole thing rolling:
Gretchen & Cynthia--two moms who were involved in spear-heading the effort. They passed out the multitude of awards that were given that night.
This little guy testified in the hearings to present the case for the bill. He was given an award for his involvement. He was SO grown-up and articulate. After he got his award he spoke for a minute and said something to the effect of "I just want you to know that I didn't do what I did to get an award. I did it for the kids." SO PRECIOUS!!
Char--the mom who wrote the original letter to Senator Aguirre on behalf of her son:
And a personal hero--Professor Jim Adams who was interviewed on Dateline some time ago for his Autism-related research. He's also President of the ASA-Greater Phoenix Chapter:
Yay! Thank you all for the part you played in making a difference for years to come for the children of Arizona.
