Emily Hughes, Phoenix-area hairstylist
I can imagine that while planning a wedding it must be a little overwhelming to choose between so many vendors for such an important day! I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented and personable vendors in the wedding industry, and I love to help my clients out whenever possible in creating a stellar vendor team. I frequently refer my clients to professionals I have worked with who I truly believe will do an amazing job for them by sharing my Favorite Vendors List. I also like to occasionally brag on each of them more in depth.

Today, meet Emily of Hair by Emily Hughes! Emily is a talented stylist who does beautiful bridal hair. I've been blessed to photograph Emily's work on several occasions, and I'm always amazed at the care she takes to ensure that the style is so well suited to the woman wearing it!

Here is a little Q & A to help us get to know Emily a little better. Read her answers below each question:

1. How long have you been in business?
I have been doing hair for over 10 years. About 2.5 years ago I decided to go full-time into my favorite niche of hairdressing ... weddings!

2. What got you interested in starting your business?
I wanted to focus on more of a specialty in the hair industry. I loved working in the salon, but the reason I started doing hair in the first place was to create styles and updos. I love the artistic nature of it.

3. What do you feel sets you apart from other bridal beauty artists in the wedding industry?
I'm honest and I listen. I'm realistic, and I love to enhance a bride's own natural beauty! I'm committed to making a bride feel confident before and on her wedding day!

4. What kinds of brides do you work with most often?
Sweet ones! :) I always get brides who are excited for their wedding day! The adjectives I would use to describe my brides are: natural, lively, flowy and free-spirited!

bride and groom at Boyce Thompson Arboretum

5. What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry?
I love my brides and my fellow vendors. Plus, the energy on my brides' wedding days is so fun! I get to do what I love in the midst of special women on such a special day – I have the best job!

6. When meeting with brides, what is the biggest tip you find yourself giving them?
Dry texture spray is where it's at! Also, extensions are totally normal and lots of brides use them. They can still look very natural!

7. What do you think the biggest difference is between bridal beauty and everyday hair/makeup?
On your wedding day, you're a fancier version of yourself; you're not transforming yourself into that girl on Pinterest! Your fiancé is marring YOU, so looking like yourself is important! Each of my brides have such a beauty about them that is specific to who they are so finding what works best to bring out the beauty in you is ideal for both wedding day and every day.

8. Any fun-facts that we should really know that would contribute even more to your coolness?
I'm a wife & mom of two, and I enjoy juggling my mom-ness with my business! I love to read and I'm totally a quasi-hippie. I also looooove being in cozy clothes :)
Books, comfy clothes, and a passion for your business ... it's no wonder we get along well! Thank you for taking the time to share with us today!
