When I started my business in 2003, I built my first website in Flash. By myself. CRAZY. Back then, I don't even think there was an option to buy a template website. Today, new photographers are faced with a plethora of options for their websites.
My current site is a custom site built by Infinet Design. But if I were starting out today with limited funds, there is no question that I would purchase a Sitehouse Design. There are pros and cons to each option, but with a custom site you are looking at investing thousands of dollars and there is no guarantee that you will end up loving the end product. Sitehouse Website Designs are pre-designed sites created by the uber-talented Promise Tangeman. They work on a software platform called ShowIt (which I use for my workshop website and album design templates website -- love them!) and are COMPLETELY CUSTOMIZABLE.

So with Sitehouse, you are getting a killer deal:
-You get a professional looking site that you get to see and like before you purchase it.
-You can completely customize it with your logo, colors, photos, text -- you name it. But it's even more customizable than a template site. There is literally nothing you can't change.
-You can update it yourself whenever you want to. (ShowIt is super user-friendly -- think drag and drop)
-In the end, you get the look of a custom site without having to pay thousands of dollars.
Sitehouse just came out with a new line of sites for their Spring 2013 Collection and each of them costs only $349!! CRAZY!! SO affordable compared with a custom site.
I spent some time recently looking over the Spring Collection and I'm floored. These sites have such a custom, unique feel to them. Two of my favorites from the Spring Collection are Headliner:

You have to head over to the Sitehouse website to see full demos of the above sites and click around in them. So amazing!
If you're a new photographer overwhelmed with the options, or you're a seasoned photographer looking to freshen things up, I would highly recommend going with a Sitehouse Website Design. You just can't beat the affordability and flexibility they offer while still getting a professional-looking site with a custom feel.
