Frivolous: playful, lighthearted, trivial; the little things in life that should be savored.
Highlight of the week: A two-night staycation at The Arizona Biltmore. I would typically never plan something like this -- I'm basically a workaholic homebody by nature -- but I was gifted a two-night stay in a huge suite at The Biltmore for doing a styled shoot for their marketing department last year. The gift certificate was about to expire, so I finally booked it, and I'm SO glad I did. I spent two glorious days with a dear friend and my sister by the pool, reading, Pinteresting, shopping, and eating out. It was so rejuvenating and such a blessing!
Yes, I did this:
1 -- Realized only AFTER my check engine light came on that it had been over 5,000 miles since my last oil change. Oops!
2 -- Came home to my backyard covered in the carnage of two 40-foot palm trees that I had cut down. They were struck by lightening during a storm last summer and unfortunately never resurrected. :(
3 -- Chased my dog around the yard in what SHE thought was a fun game of keep-away after she caught and killed a bird. She LOVES to chase them, but I never thought she'd actually catch one! Yikes!
Celebrating: Last Sunday was Mother's Day and tomorrow is my mom's birthday. She turns 62. So it's "the week of mom". Just two weeks ago she was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and ended up staying for a full week. She had severe abdominal pain and had a slew of tests run. Turns out she had pancreatitis and had to have her gall bladder removed. She has made an amazing recovery since then, but it was really scary to see my mom -- an incredible RN who takes care of everyone else -- in a hospital bed with tubes everywhere. On Mother's Day we went to church together and barbecued at my sister's house, and this weekend we get to celebrate her again! I'm so thankful to have such an amazing mom and to have her back in good health!
I just got film scans back from my lab from my most recent wedding. It's always like Christmas morning opening Lightroom and seeing all of my images pop up! I can't wait to share a blog post of some of my favorites on Monday. Get ready -- this may be the happiest couple I've ever photographed! I can't wipe the smile off my face as I edit them!
Feeling Blessed: Yesterday I was able to connect with all 12 members of the Align Album Design and Melissa Jill Photography teams -- 2 managers, 4 album designers, and 6 associate photographers. We had a virtual meeting for Align and then the MJP team got together for team photos and dinner. You can see some of the shenanigans on snapchat (find me here -- melissa_jill)! I feel SO blessed to have 12 amazing women working alongside me. I can't even believe how talented they all are and what genuinely great humans I get to be around. I hope they rub off on me more. I must have thought at least 5 times during our Align meeting, that was led by Align's General Manager, Denise, "Man, this girl is brilliant!" When you have people working for you who are smarter than you -- THAT'S when you know you've made it and done something right.
