Frivolous: playful, lighthearted, trivial; the little things in life that should be savored.
Highlight of the week: Not gonna sugar-coat it -- it's been a tough week. My 84-year-old grandma who has been battling Alzheimer's for a number of years, passed away on Monday night. I'm currently in Florida preparing for her memorial service tomorrow. It's hard to put into words the mix of emotions I am feeling right now. I'm shocked that this sweet light of a woman is no longer in the world; that I can no longer look into her eyes, and that I've laughed at her last joke. I'm relieved that she is done with the cruel limbo that is Alzheimer's disease, and thankful that we are finally allowed to fully mourn her loss. I rejoice in the depths of my heart with the assurance that, because she knew and loved Jesus, she is with him in heaven at this very moment. And the silver-lining-highlight-of-the-week is that I get unexpected family time in the midst of busy season. This loss is hard, but the blessing of being near family is a great comfort.
Yes, I did this:
1 -- Booked a flight AND checked in for it concurrently.
2 -- Shared one bathroom with my parents and sister for the first time in years.
3 -- Opted for an air mattress over a circa 1972 sleeper sofa.
Celebrating: TSA pre-check has finally entered my life. It's been one of those non-urgent tasks on my to-do list for the longest time but I'm now cleared by the US government to sail through security in 30 seconds flat. It. Was. Glorious.
Can we please take a moment to talk about my grandma's hair in her 1948 senior portrait? Looking through her yearbook, I'm under the impression that there may have been some type of competition among the ladies of her era for who could style the biggest hair. AND I'M THINKING GRANDMA DOROTHY WON.
Feeling Blessed: This whole fall season, I only have one Saturday off. Tomorrow. The Saturday of the week Jesus chose to take my grandma home. The day we are celebrating her life. What a sweet gift from a God whose love is vast beyond all measure.
