I'm in a book club. Ya, I'm nerdy like that. These are my fellow nerds:
We met yesterday for lunch and it was pure bliss. Yummy food, good conversation and the smell of new books the second we walked in the book store. Nothing better.

I used to not really like reading. But I think it was because I was reading the wrong books. I always gravitated toward the self-help type of books because I always felt like I needed to be productive and use reading to help me improve myself and my life. When I started my business, I started having trouble getting to sleep at night. My brain continued to think creatively and work on my business when my head hit the pillow. My recourse was to dive into another world through reading. Not self-help books that would continue to force my brain to work, but stories. Fiction. It was so liberating to allow myself to enjoy reading and not have to feel productive while doing it.

Now some fiction is still just boring and badly written. But that's why I have these gals and goodreads.com. I wait to hear reviews about books from other people before I pick them up myself. Natalie, my sister (right), is our resident filter. She'll read anything -- and does -- then lets us know if it's worthwhile or not. It's funny -- over time all us girls have gotten to know what types of books each other likes. Lindsay (middle) likes true crime stories and historical fiction. Andrea (left) also likes historical fiction and quirky novels with a bit of humor thrown in. I like really well written novels that don't include sex, excessive romance or dogs dying. No dogs dying. I'm a mess for like 3 days.

This past month we read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society:
It's a historical fiction piece surrounding WWII. But it doesn't take place in the typical WWII setting of a concentration camp. And the characters are all super-endearing. It was a really fun, easy read, had a very cathartic ending, and all of us girls gave it very high ratings. If you're looking for a good read, definitely pick it up!

And our pick for next month is:
Another historical fiction novel surrounding WWII. If you are a reader or have trouble getting to sleep at night, pick it up, friend me on goodreads.com and join in the discussion!
