I'm out in LA for the weekend, visiting some friends and relaxing a bit. The theme of my weekend seems to be "getting into the Christmas spirit." As I mentioned in my last post--this is really good for me because I tend to miss the holiday season all-together; not taking time to slow down and enjoy it. Yesterday I met up with three friends from college for a cookie decorating party. I've just recently re-connected with these three over Facebook and this is the first time I've seen them in 10 years. Wow--that makes me feel old! It was so much fun to reminisce and catch up.
But I discovered that my artistic talents don't really extend to cookie decorating. And I obviously have a lot to learn in the cookie-making department. We were supposed to all bring 2 dozen sugar cookie baked and ready for decorating. Here are my friend Emily's flawless cookies:

And here are mine:
Mine pretty much all looked like crusty blobs that you couldn't really quite make out what they were. Once I got over my cookie-envy, I started the decorating process which consisted of spreading the frosting on two cookies; eating one; spreading frosting on a couple more; eating 5. I think I must have eaten somewhere in the region of 10 cookies throughout the afternoon. The thing I realized is that even though my cookies weren't taking the prize for best--decorated or prettiest, they still tasted pretty darn good.
Here's some more shots of the merriment:

It was fun to watch the kids take part too. Towards the end I noticed that we were running low on the green frosting. Then I looked next to me and discovered why:
Finally, one last shot of the four of us--Emily, me, Christine & Krista:
So much fun seeing you girls!
