Last week I was in Charlotte, North Carolina for another MJ2Day workshop. We had a great group of 13 attendees who travelled in from around the country and Canada.
On the first day of the workshop, I took the group out to do a mock engagement shoot in the yard of the host home and the street out front. I was able to demonstrate how I run a typical engagement shoot -- finding great light, interacting with the couple, posing and looking for compositional elements -- all things we talked about earlier in the day. Unfortunately, the sun didn't shine directly on us, so I didn't get to demonstrate backlighting -- my favorite kind of lighting -- but as a photographer, you need to be able to work with what you got, so that's what we did!
Our two models were Ryan and Vanessa who have been married for six years and just had their first baby 6 months ago! These two hosted the first MJ2Day in Charlotte and I was thrilled when they volunteered to model for us and loved being able to catch up with them. They were so cute together and were total troopers in front of 14 cameras.
These are some of my favorites from our shoot. Interspersed throughout the post are some behind the scenes images that my awesome assistant Michelle took. Throughout the shoot I would occasionally turn to the attendees and explain what I was doing, share my camera settings, and answer any questions they had.

How sweet are these two together?
Shooting in Leslie's yard was so fun. And we literally stayed in the yard for the whole shoot except for that one spot above on the street. It just goes to show -- you don't always need to go to great lengths to find great locations.
Vanessa was great and took a group shot of all of us at the end of the session:
Such a fun crew!
The next morning after the shoot, I off-loaded my images and showed the attendees my photos straight out of camera. It was a great learning experience and the attendees left feeling more confident in running their own shoots.
I'm thrilled that once again, the MJ2DAY was a huge success! I love that I know 13 more photographers from around the world who are working hard to bring their photography and businesses to the next level. I can't wait to see where their individual journeys take them!
I wanted to give a shout-out to our fabulous sponsors who added so much value to the attendees' workshop experience: Destination I Do Magazine, Pictage, Jared Platt Workshops, ShowIt, Queensberry, Two Bright Lights, Electric Dreams Design, B&H, and Sitehouse. Thank you so much for your support!
