62. Go to an APU Christmas Choir concert

This weekend, while out in LA, I was able to check another goal off of my 101 in 1001 list. From 1995-1999 I attended Azusa Pacific University and although I didn't major in anything close to music, I sang in choir all four years. It was an amazing experience. The music talent runs deep at APU and it was such a blessing to be a part of it. We practiced three times a week, performed every Sunday night at a church within a 2 hour drive from APU, recorded a CD each year and went on a 2 week concert tour after Spring semester let out each year.

My Freshman and Sophomore years I was in an all-girls choir called Bel Canto. Get ready for pink overload. Actually, it looks more red in this photo (tried to tone it down in PS). Once you see the girl with the super-blonde long hair in the second row, look one to the right and that's me with the big head of permed hair. YES--it was cool at the time :).
My Junior and Senior year I was in the University Choir and Orchestra (UCO) where we got guys and instruments added to the bunch. In this choir, you pretty much knew how good you were based on where you stood in the choir. The best singers were in the middle. Note that I'm second from the end on the left side:
I was by no means the most talented, but I felt SO blessed to be a part of this amazingly talented group.

I haven't been back to see the choir sing since I graduated in '99. And I remember absolutely loving our Christmas concerts each year. So I decided a couple years ago, when I made my list that I had to get back for one. This is the first year I haven't had a wedding on the weekend of the concert, so I was able to make it!

This is the choir I saw last Friday night:
Boy did they look young! They were very talented and put on a great show but I was a little sad that they had shrunk to less than half our size. And many other things had changed since I left as well. But I guess that's how things go--nothing ever stays the same.

This weekend I stayed with my friends Kimberley and John Mark who both work at APU and scored us some amazing second row seats. Here's me and Kimberley at the concert:
And our friends David & Becky drove up from San Diego to meet us for the concert as well. David (on the left) was in UCO with me for one year. Here's the whole group after the concert:
The concert was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. And so was staying at Kimberley and JM's house. It was like a Christmas wonderland in there:
SUCH a great weekend. Now if only I could get my Christmas decorations up....
