I've decided that for this and all future MJ's Faves posts, to switch it up and share just one of my favorite things per post. Today I want to share a new favorite and uber-addictive website. Pinterest.com.
I've only been on Pinterest for two weeks but it's already rocked my world. It's inspired me, caused me to consistently stay up past my bedtime and even enticed me to crochet a scarf (more on that in a future post).
How many of you have files on your computer of images you've saved off the internet? I have two: one of wedding ideas I love (on the off-chance that I get married myself one day), and one with decor ideas and inspiration for my home. These files are helpful but I don't have a way to keep track of where I got the images from - which would come in handy if I share them in the form of an inspiration board and wanted to give credit OR if I wanted to look back at the original site to learn more or research sources. Enter Pinterest.
Pinterest is a social media site that allows you to pin images of interest into boards that you've created. It's like an online bulletin board of sorts. So far I have 14 boards with a total of 274 pins in them:

When you pin an image onto one of your boards, it saves the link back to the original site. So you can always click back and read up on the original context or give credit for where you found the image. And if you find something you love on someone else's board, you can click through to find the original source website which can open up whole new worlds you didn't even know existed. Can you see how fun and addicting this could be!?
Pinterest is perfect for:
-someone who wants to gather inspiration or ideas for a home renovation project they're working on (I have two - one for my kitchen which I plan to remodel in a year or two and one for curb appeal since I have plans to revamp the front of my house as well.)
-a wedding blogger or planner who needs to put together inspiration boards for their blog or for clients' weddings.
-a bride who wants to start a file of wedding color schemes, decor ideas, dress styles or photography that she loves.
-a photographer who wants to start a file of inspirational images they can look through to get their creativity flowing before upcoming shoots.
-someone who when asked "What do you want for Christmas?" suddenly cannot remember a single thing they need. (I created a board called "Things you should buy me" to prevent this common occurrence from ever happening to me again.)
Pinterest is also a great tool to FIND things you are looking for. It functions as a visual search engine of sorts. It's a great replacement for google's image search engine because when you type "kitchen" or "scarf" or "wedding" into Pinterest's search field, you will get a slew of images that other people have found beautiful and pin-worthy. So it often produces higher quality images than the same search would on Google. If you find something you love that way, you can simply re-pin it to one of your boards to add it to your collection.
Pinterest requires you to either be invited by a current user or to sign up on a waiting list before you can register and start pinning. Current users can invite a maximum of 6 people but the waiting list isn't too long - only about a week or so. If you need an invitation, feel free to leave a comment below and I'll invite the first few people who express interest.
Hope to see you guys on there! SO fun and SO addicting! Oh -- and you can find me here: http://www.pinterest.com/melissajill
