Yesterday I spoke at Pictage Partner Conference - a national photography conference held in New Orleans. This is the third year I've spoken at this event and it went so well! I shared my journey from falling in love with photography through going full-time 6 years ago then building my business to what it is today and 5 key lessons I learned along the way. I've learned WAY more than 5 but I only had an hour to speak so I narrowed it down to these:
-What it takes to make the leap from part-time to full-time
-I'm not the right photographer for everyone
-Humanize yourself; share who you are personally with your clients
-Educate clients up front
-Write down your goals
It was fun to get up and share from my heart as well as to give some really tangible and practical tips for the photographers to walk away with.
The process of preparing for this talk and then spending time with other photographers for a few days in New Orleans has really reminded me of how blessed I am to do what I do. What an honor it is to capture the memories and be invited into the lives of my clients! What a cool job I have that I get to visit New Orleans for a photography conference and hang out with super-fun photographers and walk away inspired and thankful.
I didn't take my camera out much this week but I started my talk by snapping a quick shot of most of the audience (obviously my 24mm wasn't wide enough):

If you're a photographer, definitely plan to attend next year's PartnerCon. I've gone for five years and it's hands down the best photography conference out there!
